The Lightest, Most Compact and Easiest to Fold Travel Strollers

This stroller is among the lightest and compact. It's also the easiest folding strollers. Despite its size, it provides a good ride, fantastic sun canopy, and a multi-position recline.

With a price of less than $100 it's an excellent value. It's compact and easy to fold, making it perfect for public transport or slinging over your shoulder.

1. Lightweight

The most important thing to consider when choosing a travel stroller is to be light and easy to fold. The best models we tested could be folded with one hand, and sometimes two and can be tucked into overhead compartments for luggage. They also have a good roll and are small enough to maneuver easily in tight spaces. Some models come with a telescoping handle to accommodate parents of different heights. Find a lightweight, easy to carry foldable stroller for your family, no matter if you're planning to take an excursion with a baby, or taking a long-haul journey with an infant.

We tested nine strollers that met our minimum size and weight requirements. Each model was tested on city streets and country side walks and in the terminal at the airport to determine its maneuverability, ease of carrying and folding and overall comfort for the child.

Our top choice is the Babyzen YoYo2 (320) It folds the most easily of the strollers we tested, and is able to fit into the overhead bins of planes. It's car seat-compatible and its seat reclines almost completely flat, making it ideal for babies. Other parent-friendly features include a deep undercarriage storage basket, a bag hook on the handle, and a UPF 50+ canopy that offers ample coverage for your young traveler.

Other great options include the Cybex Orfeo ($320), that features a one-handed concertina fold and is extremely light. Its padded, five-point harness and crotch strap will keep your child safe, while the reversible seat and hefty undercarriage basket ensure there's plenty of space for their belongings. It's also compatible with the brand's infant car seat, making it a viable option for families who start from birth.

Finally, the Coya TRVL ($320) is a different one-handed, one-step fold with car seat compatibility and a far-reaching canopy. It's more expensive than the other models in the same category however, it comes with additional features, including a spacious cupholder and a parent's pocket, a movable handlebar to accommodate parents of different heights and a comfortable carrying strap. Its simplicity is sacrificed for some durability when compared to the other models in this category, however.

2. Folding is easy

When you're on the move, your stroller has to be simple to open and close. You do not want a stroller that is difficult to close when you have children or groceries in your arms. Even with only one hand, the most convenient strollers for travel can be folded up quickly and compactly. A lot of them have padded straps that you can comfortably wear over your shoulders.

In our tests, we awarded the Libelle stroller high marks due to its compactness and ease of folding stroller (Basslev.ru). However, it also has some great features: It can roll effortlessly across all surfaces and has a generous canopy that gives plenty of coverage. Additionally, it's extremely light and free-standing when folded which makes it easier to store.

Parents who want to roll straight to the plane gate and then put their stroller into the overhead bin, we recommend looking for a model that promises to fit inside. The Munchkin Sparrow is a good example. It fits in the smallest folding space and comes with an enclosed travel cover. However, it does not have a reclining seat and the cargo area is too small to hold anything other than a small diaper bag or a tote.

The Babyzen Yoyo 2 is another option. It folds in a concertina-style fashion, but it also offers a reversible seat for riding back-toback or face-toface. Our managing editor found it a breeze to open and close, but she was not thrilled with the way the handle folds into the seat when folded.

The most recent type of stroller for travel is the tri-fold. It folds in thirds, and offers the perfect combination of compactness and features. The UPPAbaby Miniu, as an instance, comes with the ability to flip the chair over with a storage pouch that is not structured on the rear, and a lockable latch to keep it folded. It's a bit bigger than the umbrellas of the brand, but is smaller than their G-Luxe and G-Link counterparts. It also comes with a shoulder strap that is cushioned.

3. Easy to store

The most effective travel strollers fold up into an easy-to-store size that you can easily fit into the trunk of your car or squeeze into the overhead bin on a plane. Some models even come with a carrying strap that makes it simple to sling over your shoulder and not have to worry about your hands becoming tired. They also tend to be lighter than regular strollers, which could make them easier to lift and carry when you're ready for a stroll around the neighborhood or to the airport.

When we tested this stroller, it performed exceptionally well in our durability tests and was able to maneuver on all kinds of surfaces from smooth hardwoods to shag carpeting. In general, we recommend calling your airline prior to time to verify their specific guidelines regarding the use of strollers on planes as they may differ. This is especially important if you wish to gate-check your stroller, which would allow you to travel around the airport without it and still use it when you're on the plane (though that option won't work for families who need a car seat or toddler booster).

If you're looking for a simple travel stroller that's lightweight and folds down to an extremely compact size the Contours Itsy is a great choice. The Contours Itsy comes almost fully assembled and all you need to do is put in the bumper bar. It has cups holder for the parent and an additional back pocket. However it doesn't have an over-sized basket. This can make it difficult to pack the essentials for a long trip.

If you're a frequent traveler we recommend you look into a more robust stroller that has more features and the capacity to hold more cargo. The UPPAbaby Minu, for example, has many of the same features as its G-Luxe and G-Link cousins but is smaller and folds up more quickly. It's also a bit more durable than an umbrella stroller and has a strap that is padded to alleviate some of the burden off your shoulders.

4. Confortable

Comfort is key when using strollers for long durations of time. Seats with plenty of padding and a reclining system that can be adjusted to various angles are ideal. Note if the canopy extends to provide sun protection, and if the mesh windows allow airflow. Look for a model with an organizer for parents and a cupholder as well as an enormous basket underneath the seat, if you have to carry things with you. If you're in the market for a travel stroller for older children, check the age range and consider whether your child is comfortable in the stroller without an infant car seat.

The way that a stroller moves is also crucial. It should be able to move easily across a variety of surfaces including smooth hardwoods and shag carpets to cobblestones, and gravel. It should be able to handle steps, curbs and other obstacles easily. If your travel plans involve a lot of walking, opt for a light stroller to avoid back and leg soreness.

A high-quality travel stroller is one that is easy to use, as well. It should assemble in under 30 seconds and snap together securely when it is popped in the correct place. It should also be able to fold flat and fit in the boot of a car or the overhead compartment of planes.
