As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
