Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture leg. They also feature carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. 5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
