1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the autonomous vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaners reviews uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
