Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service can provide private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your adhd titration meaning. This will include medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your particular situation. This will happen at your follow up appointment (which could be in person via video link or via phone). Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks, and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medications until you discover the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential that parents are involved in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete and you are satisfied, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted via zoom video call. However, in certain cases, it may be possible for an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

We will then go over treatment options and decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any side effects you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history as well as the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be suffering from. This is due to the fact that ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is crucial that we assess any family history that may indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During this examination, it is vital to be truthful and honest with the clinician in the sense that they will use the information you provide to determine whether you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. We suggest that if are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether they require a GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them after you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.

Medication

For many people who seek an individual diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a crucial element of their treatment. It isn't easy to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose one that provides a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

If you are recommended by this method the doctor you choose will examine you and decide whether or not you're required to be adjusted on your medication. You'll need to fill out forms that differ by provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories going back to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are titrated, the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be carefully tested and monitored to find the right combination for you. Depending on the type of medication you are taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fee, and they will be given their medication on private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
