Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to mark the centennial of the company. It is made from Dark Stained Burr Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes a fluttering "B" paperweight keys, as well as a booklet featuring never-before-seen 1930s 8 Litre images.

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their car. When each selection is made, a pattern emerges which shows the model and color preferences for the customized Bentley.

The guests are given the keys in a case designed by hand that houses the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can be adorned with Bentley Muliner Personalised welcome lamps that illuminate the pathway of the door's opening. They are adorned with the owner's name or logo as they approach the bently car key.

Bentley estimates that it requires 500 man-hours to construct and put together a Mulsanne. The inability to adopt new technology is the key to this time-consuming task. Instead of making use of a machine to space the perfectly matched cross-stitched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built-in sensors guide it into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces the drivers must do it by hand.
