And, like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot vacuum that vacuums and mops which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic hoover spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes.
