Robots that vacuum and mop provide the convenience of cleaning both dry debris (dust dirt, grit) and wet mess (spills or stains) in one session without the need to switch out devices. They can also reduce space in comparison to two separate units, particularly in smaller living areas.

A good combination bot will offer excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models that have docks that let them automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's among the easiest robots to set up that we've ever tested. Unpacking the S1 Pro is simple, and the quick-start guide will get you running with a clean and complete dust bag, floor solution for hard floors and water tank in a matter of minutes.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that is able to clean up a storm and also vacuums well. The mops are spun at a high rate and employ 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to remove dirt, pet hair and sticky dried spills. The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, a range of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app which lets you select the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

For example, you can opt for the robot to do a deep clean in the living and kitchen areas but be careful with the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro's front colision sensors and its smart navigation technology are excellent too as the best robot cleaner is capable of detecting small obstacles that other models struggle with. Its only drawback is that it can crash into walls and objects at full speed. However, an instant glance at the history of cleaning in the app tells you exactly what it's doing as well as where it's heading, and which obstacles it's run into or avoided.

The docking station comes with a handy LCD screen that shows the time when maintenance is required, such as emptying debris and washing the water tank that is dirty. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank using a 600ml bottle of eufy's own solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop can run for 184 minutes in Quiet Mode and the vacuum can last 136 mins in normal mode, prior to needing recharging or returning to the base. You can view the entire cleaning information in the app, which is intuitively laid out and is easy to comprehend, though we would have liked to be able distinguish between a mop only vacuum and mop clean, when looking at a cleaned area in the cleaning history.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the latest version of Roborock's top-of-the-line robot vacuum and mop, is the most recent version. The model this year has an agitator that doubles as its mopping pad. This enhances the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra also has an improved suction capacity, allowing it to remove fine hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners may miss.

The Roborock model, like the other two I tried it has infrared and a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further by incorporating dual cameras that can detect objects, determining if they are walls or other surfaces. It can then automatically change its path and clean the objects without a pause.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed but it's also the most loaded with features. Its sleek and angular design is attractive and it only has three physical buttons: the power button, which also resumes cleaning; a mop button that doubles as a child lock and a home button to return the robot to its dock. Lifting the hinged lid reveals 350ml of dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank self-empties and the bin auto-filling.

The only issue I have discovered with this model was that its VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. It is possible to replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to remove the mount to wash it manually. I've observed that any carpet that the robot touches will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on the mounts, which can cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a variety of smart features which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can manage and set up these through the Roborock app, which is also home to its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to plan cleanings and monitor battery life. You'll have to go through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. It's a shame, considering how well-performing it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The app is user-friendly and easy to use and the X40's intelligent features are easy to install. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, adjust suction power and mode, see floor plans and mapping and manage mopping settings. The X40 can also track its progress and inform you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to keep clean and has many features that make it an excellent option for busy families. The docking station automatically cleans the dustbin and the mop pads and refill them with fresh cleaning solution and water. It also can detect the moment when the mop pad has reached its capacity to the max and notify you of the situation before it overflows.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models available. It has a number of characteristics that make it stand out. Its mops have a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. This makes use of two mops with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly than the conventional method, and it has an impressive suction power of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can vacuum up pet hair and small dirt particles - and also pick up spills and wet spots.

The mop is also cleaned and dried inside the base station after each use. This is an excellent feature as it stops the growth of odours and mould in the storage area, and it also makes the mop system a lot more efficient. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot best automatic vacuum and mop models. It could be a great method to keep your home clean longer.

There's an impressive amount of settings available which include the ability to schedule cleaning times and adjust a number of different preferences. These settings can be adjusted via the app or buttons that can be found on the unit itself. The app is easy to use and provides a variety of options for customising the cleaning routine. Additionally, there are many functions that other robots don't have - such as the Clean Genius mode that automatically increases suction power when it detects dust particles, instead of relying on a manual setting.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most stylish robots we've seen on the market, with metallic and white design that is elegant and stylish. It's a bit heavier at 4kg than some of the other robots on this listing however it's not too heavy. It feels solid and well-constructed. Mopping is also well-designed and the double-rotating mop is great for hard floors as well as in corners. The MopExtend feature lets them reach up to 2mm below baseboards.
