1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as good robot vacuum as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum best vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
