Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item upgrader kit has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item upgrader mod however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will show an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current level of the item upgrader kit, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade item coupon and a chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Crests

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
