Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. This high-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot vacuums with mop to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up an automatic hoover spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
