WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level upgrade level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the item level upgrade being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through item upgrader kit upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade item can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. They can make use of Flightstones which are a common upgrade currency that is accessible to all players, or crests that are more specialized and consumed during upgrades on specific levels of the item. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
