It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
