During our testing, we found that the iRobot S9+ cleans thoroughly and efficiently on a variety of floor surfaces, from carpets with medium to hard piles and rug. It also performed well on tiles, laminate floors, and vinyl flooring. It also did a good job of maneuvering between furniture and objects although it did struggle with stairs, where it can accidentally crash into things like bookcases.

The S9's capability to automatically return to its base and empty its dust bin once it's full was an excellent feature. It cut down on the need for manual maintenance. The dust bag is expected to last for around 30 loads or a month and half. You'll need to replace the filter periodically (as suggested by iRobot). In our experience, the iRobot S9+ doesn't get very loud during operation, so it's a good choice for those who live with pets or children.

Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

The most effective ones can be controlled and monitored via an app on your smartphone and some include mopping technology for bathroom and kitchen floors. They're a great solution for busy families, and are becoming more affordable than ever before. But if you want top-tech features in your robotic cleaner, you'll need to pay a little more.

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is a great choice for people who live in a multi-floored apartment. The Vacuum Mop Combo Robot's 0.6l bin can hold a lot of pet hair. Its dual motors provide impressive cleaning power. The dustbin is easily removed and emptied, which is great because you'll have to do this regularly.

It's also easy to set up, though I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the first time. You'll need to install the Eufy Home app and follow the instructions for connecting to your Wi-Fi network. Once you've done that, the app will help you create an accurate map of your home. You can label the rooms, split large areas into sub-rooms to facilitate open-plan living and help direct the X8 Hybrid towards specific areas that need to be cleaned at a particular time. Other robots also have similar scanning and mapping functions, but Eufy's app is more refined and intuitive than the other.

A great feature on the X8 Hybrid is that you can activate the mop or vacuum using your voice, thanks to integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. This is a wonderful feature that makes the robot hands-free. It was very effective in our test house.

The X8 Hybrid, like many robotic vacuums has some issues with bare flooring. It can be unable to see pet hair or small objects, and is more likely to hit things, like its own charger on the base for charging. It's also not as quiet as other models we've tested, and the whirring sounds can be distracting.

Roborock V3S pro

This robot doesn't have the same features as the more expensive models we tested, however it does have the basics covered. It has a big enough dust bin that can hold plenty of dirt until it needs emptying, and its mop and vacuum system is perfect for carpets that are hard and low-pile. It's also very quiet and we were able to watch the TV while it was working without feeling like it was blazing us with the sound.

Our test subjects were impressed with how easy it was to set up and use, and they were amazed by its ability to clean all the messes off their flooring. It was effective in picking up pet hair, messes and carpeting, but it was more difficult in getting rid of stains that were stubborn. The app was easy to use and easy to understand. They were able program the vacuum to clean regularly to minimize the amount of manual work. It doesn't feature the ability to avoid objects or map technology, so it can't be able to be directed to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundaries work).

It's also quiet and has a huge dust bin that can hold plenty of debris before it's time to empty it.

The V3S Pro did not make it onto our top choice lists of trusted sources who conduct hands-on tests, however it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. The V3S Pro was simple to use and set up, but the battery life was a bit short.
