Having the right tools at hand is essential when you are in the field. This kit was developed with this in mind, and contains all of the hand tools essential to repair items in the field. The tools are made of metal and have very little plastic, which means they can endure the use. The kit comes with an afghan-like pouch with zippered for the coalcracker's tools, a twist awl, reamer and cutting shears and Gimlets (5MM). It also includes a bottle of coalcracker oil with illustrated instructions and a wooden spool an reamer, and a twist awl.

Repair Patches

If you've got holes or two in your gear, think about adding some adhesive patches to your rep kit. These tough patches have an ultra-high-performance adhesive that is applied to a tough polyurethane back that lets a tear heal under pressure. Available in clear or colored versions These patches offer durability against punctures, moisture saltwater, sunlight and temperatures that are extreme.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items You may want to think about adding a waterproof Aquaseal wader sealant. This water-tight glue can be applied to fabrics, plastics, metals and other materials for permanent repair. It's great for repairing drysuits and may be applied on the job. Allow the sealant to cure for up to 12 hours prior to applying the repaired gear.

The essential field fabric kit for tents, packs, and rainwear made from silicone-impregnated nylon. It includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair sample, plus a 1/4 ounce tube of Gore-Tex Sil-Fix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. To use, apply patch over clean, smooth surface of the damaged area, with at least 1/2 inch overlap. Remove release paper and rub adhesive side down using a moderate amount of pressure.

Surface preparation is crucial for successful repairs; oils on boots or Rep Kit shoes sunblocks or solvents like acetone may affect adhesion. For the best results, make use of Seam Grip alone or with Cotol-240 Cure Accelerator to speed curing to 2 hours.

Adhesive Patches

These adhesive patches are perfect for those who don't wish to sit around waiting to get back on the trail. Apply the self-adhesive patch and apply it to the saddle.

Use the tube-scuffer tool to roughen the surface. This will help the glue stick. Then, spread a thin layer of glue over the patch that covers an area at least as large as the patch itself. Wait a few minutes for the glue to harden before pressing the patch down and firmly holding it in the desired position.

The kit contains two adhesive-backed, clear Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also comes with an ounce Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Ideal for strengthening damaged sleeping bags, Rep Kit rainwear and packs.
