Alex the African Grey Parrot

He was a narcissist to two things in his life which was violence and classical music, specifically Beethoven, whose songs always brought up images of blood and depravity to him. He also had a habit of drinking milk spiked with drugs, which the gang members and he would then use to fortify themselves for their "ultraviolence."

Irene Pepperberg, his human trainer was able to teach him words and concepts quickly. Her study of him for thirty years changed the way we think about animal cognition and communication. She credits Alex for teaching her how to use the model that was effective for all animals and children who had learning disabilities.

Dr. Pepperberg continued her research with other parrots and parrots, including Wart and Griffin. She is currently a professor at the University of Washington, where she continues her pioneering work with birds.

What was Alex's intelligence?

This film has received great critical acclaim, and is considered to be one of the greatest documentaries ever made. It has also received numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in the year 2019.

In addition to his collaboration with Dr. Pepperberg, Alex also set the standard for new avenues in avian intelligence. He could perform more than 100 vocal labels for objects and actions and was able to count sets of objects up to six, and demonstrate math skills that were incredibly advanced for an avian at the time.

He could also communicate with other animals through signs and had a solid understanding of grammar.
