The Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 is a Supercapacitor Hybrid

Forged Composites

The Sian's Hybrid Systems has another trick in its sleeves that is Supercapacitors. It is able to recharge faster than lithium ion batteries and the car is able to run for up to 63 second with electric power.

Lamborghini's forging composites are the key to making this happen, and the material may eventually make its way into regular production vehicles. It begins as a sheet uncured plastic, and then mixed with random lengths of carbon fiber strands. It is not as beautiful as pre-woven carbon fiber sheets that are pre-impregnated, but it's much lighter and more durable.

Operators simply cut the carbon fiber to the desired shape, then place it in a hot press mould, and squeeze it with heat. It takes just a few minutes to do, whereas it can take several hours to make the same product using traditional methods.

Lamborghini claims that its manufacturing-friendly materials could result in more affordable products in the future. The cost of materials and labor is quite high, but if you can increase the production process and save money, you can make a difference. Forged composites are also more flexible than carbon fiber weave and engineers can design complicated shapes without the need to add weight or expense.

Carbon Skin

The Lamborghini Sian has a futuristic sleek design that enhances aerodynamic efficiency. The name Sian is the Bolognese word meaning lightning, and it's a nod to Lamborghini's past and future. The alphanumeric suffix FKP 37 is a tribute to Ferdinand Karl Piech, the man who introduced Lamborghini into the Volkswagen Group family and died shortly before the introduction of the Sian. Only 63 models were manufactured and are now sold out.
