The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest model in the series of top-of-the-line robot vacuum mop cleaner robot cleaners that are a staple of every modern household. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter that will aid those suffering from allergies. On top of that, it also comes with a powerful battery which can clean for up to two hours and it will automatically return to its dock once its bin is full.

It also has the feature of smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to determine the areas of your home that require attention and make a tidy path around them. This technology is very effective in navigating around toys that are left on the floor, or furniture legs that are sticking out from underneath objects. It also has a sensor that will snap Roomba to its real-world location if it begins to move away from its initial location.

iRobot has also added an additional set of rollers beneath the Roomba that don't have bristles, and are therefore more likely to withstand knots than earlier models. They're also a bit higher than the older rollers and are able to fit under beds and couches that are low, and they're designed to help this model navigate more easily on varying flooring types.

What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models of this class however, is its inclusion of a new dirt detection feature, which uses a camera to spot particles of dirt embedded. This is an improvement over the previous model that relied on the use of a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover to bounce around the room and clean the area three times, at different angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. Its score on the low pile carpet was excellent and it also scored a high score on mid pile, too. It did a good job of removing pet hair, but it was struggling with extremely thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed, Shark ez robot Vacuum despite these minor limitations. It's also not as expensive as other top-of the-line models. It's still packed with a variety of features we'd expect to see in a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration that are found in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get running right away. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, press its big "Clean" button, and let it get to work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery runs out or it's full of debris, and it has indicator lights on the top for when its bin is full or it's time to recharge or its Wi-Fi signal has gone out.
