With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.
