World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average item level is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a measure of the item's damage and quality. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full item description, including its value. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are various theories on how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using formulas that determine the worth of the stats of an item really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

This isn't the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item upgrader kit will have at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, it will have to be done per Item upgrader mod and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful in the early game, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Additionally some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Each item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
