Roomba also has a sensor that snaps Roomba to its real-world location if it begins to wander away from its initial location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers beneath the bottom of the Roomba that don't have bristles and, therefore, tend to be more resistant to tangles than the previous models. These are also a little taller than previous rollers, and will fit better under low couches and beds and are designed to allow this model to move more easily across a variety of flooring types.

The Roomba 980 is distinguished from other high-end models by its brand new dirt detection feature, which makes use of a camera in order to detect embedded dirt. The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. It scored extremely well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots on our list despite the slight limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It's got plenty of features that we'd expect to see in a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy apps or smart home integration that are found in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and start running right away. After taking off the battery pull tab and yellow bin insert from the undercarriage, all you have to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button, and let it get to work. It will return to its dock when its battery is out or it's stuffed with debris, and it has indicators at the top for when its bin is full, it's time to recharge or its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
