Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums with mop in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
