The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good robot vacuum scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic vacuum and mop bin for emptying. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is also great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto vacuum and mop-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top good robot vacuum vacuums we've test. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
