One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. It did a good cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum that mops vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart best robot vacuum and mop uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
