Bedside cots (also known as co-sleepers or bassinets) are designed to let parents rest with their baby at night without the risk of SIDS. However, they are only recommended for use up to 6 months of age when your baby is required to move into a cot or a moses basket.

Size

Height

When choosing a bedside cot, look for one that can be elevated to a height that is comfortable for feeding your baby. She also said that the bassinet's pivoting base was fantastic because it allowed you to move it from side to side. One of its sides could be lowered to facilitate access for mothers who are recovering from C-sections.

Safety

A large bedside cot's main security characteristic is that it can easily be adjusted or moved so that parents can reach their baby to feed or comfort him or his or her diaper. This is why it's perfect for mothers who are still be recovering from a C-section. You should look for the design that lets you lower the bed's side with a simple button press. In its NPR In its NPR, the CPSC considered the possibility of adding additional requirements for bedside sleepers, such as the requirement that these products satisfy the minimum side height requirement for bassinets, or at the very least, meet the maximum height requirement for the lowered side rail. However, the CPSC determined that these requirements would not be practical or effective in reducing the number of incidents where infants were trapped between a bedside sleeper and an adult bed.

A majority of the incidents mentioned in the NPR concerned multi-use bedside sleepers which can be converted to other modes, such as play yards or bassinets. Several commenters suggested that the CPSC include in the proposed rule a different provision for multiuse bedside crib that turns into cot sleepers to enable them to meet the minimum side-height requirements for bassinets using an attachment that is removable and can be connected permanently or disconnected when the product is not being used as the bassinet.

The CPSC is currently reviewing these comments as well as other submissions received in response to the NPR on bedside sleeping. The Commission will be examining these comments when it decides on the final rule, which is expected to be released in November of 2021.
