However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum with mop that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, best robot hoover which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot auto vacuum and mop to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
