1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They are equipped with motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and best robot hoover Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum mop cleaner robot's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
