Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum and mop has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
