Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're seeking a buggy to run around in or a nifty stroller to tackle strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight spots.

New data show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking stylish.

The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy can deal with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and a 3 wheel baby buggy year old and found that it was able to withstand cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it is solid to push and extremely solid when going over difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasional pumping) have suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my children.

The size and shape of the seat is another thing to think about. You want the seat to be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a full lie-flat option while others only allow for a parent facing one.

Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at the speed at which they can be pushed. This is also useful if you hit trees or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel compact stroller wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.

These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which she claims "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to climb or descend kerbs. They also have a suspension system which in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite large, and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This is problematic if you intend to use it as a jogger, or need to fit through narrow doorways while on the move. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels to make compact storage.

Easy to manoeuvre

A three wheel pushchair-wheel buggy can be easier to maneuver with a child. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels rotate at a quick pace and are incredibly maneuverable and are ideal for difficult terrain such as parks, cobbles or bumpy pavements, as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried an all-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate in rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was especially helpful." I was also amazed by the way it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven terrain."

The only downside of this incredible mobility is that the 3 wheel double buggy wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it will struggle in tight spaces, something to consider especially if you live in a metropolitan area. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better option for you.
