The Roomba J7+ is iRobot's most advanced robot vacuum to date. Its greatest advancement is an obstacle detection system that uses built-in AI to detect objects like charging cords, shoes and the pet waste that the majority of other robots cannot avoid (and often plough right through). It's the first robot to send you a picture of an object that it encounters, meaning you can tell that it is safe to avoid it.

The design is also more appealing than the other models. It has an elegant, top piece that appears like toys rather than a loud and obnoxious robot. Although it might not have some of the more expensive features (like no-go zones and multi-story memories) but it's a great choice when you're willing to make some compromises to save a few bucks.

The Q5+ is noticeable gentle around obstacles like wall legs and table legs, which makes it a great choice for homes with lots of furniture. It's also extremely thorough in cleaning dust bunnies. This is an area that many cheaper robot vacuums aren't able to meet. The technology for navigation in the Q5+ is excellent as well, with only a few missed corners and on walls.

Like other Roborock devices like the Q5+, the Q5+ can be controlled by a handful of buttons on the device or via the Roborock app. The app lets you start and stop cleanings. You can also set up schedules, create virtual barriers and no-go areas or modify your home map or re-label rooms.

If you choose the Q5+ it comes with a new auto emptying dock that is designed to make the robot easier to maintain. It requires a screwdriver install, but once it's in place, emptying the bin is easy. It features a large LCD screen that is very useful in setting up schedules and changing settings. This feature isn't necessary for everyone, however it can help you to keep track of the robot's maintenance schedules.

3. Narwal Freo X Ultra

The Freo X Ultra is a well-rounded robot vacuum and mop that's impressively clever in its vacuuming and mopping capabilities. Its design and functionality are some of the top available however, it's also expensive.

The Freo X Ultra is not without flaws, especially when it comes navigation. The laser and LiDAR sensors aren't as reliable as other robovacs, which means it sometimes gets stuck or confused in certain areas or rooms of the home. It's not able navigate stairs as well as competitors, either and it doesn't have a dock that lets you to create an area for cleaning that is specifically designed for carpets that are soft.

Although it doesn't have as much in the way of cleaning options available in its app or automatic Hoover robot as many in-app shortcuts as some other robovacs, the Freo X Ultra is still an excellent choice for anyone seeking a great all-round mop and vacuum cleaner that's worth the higher price tag.

If you're looking to save some money or don't want to think about the limitations of this robot there are many other great choices on the market which include a variety of eufy models priced significantly less. The eufy Qrevo Curv, for example is less expensive and offers the same experience in the app, but with more features, including stairs, a fully-function dock, and better overall vacuuming performance on bare floors as well as high and low-pile carpets.
