Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the best ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon massive drops or trade. This article will show you how to upp your items efficiently.

Upgrades to equipment provide an additional bonus to the item's base stats. The amount of bonus varies depending on the rarity and strength of the upgrade component.

Components

Upgrade components are the items that make your weapons and armor better. You can get them from fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres, or buying them from karma merchants. You can also get them from equipment that has the components or through salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from the item.

Upgrade components are mostly used to improve an item however, they can also be used for other reasons. They can be used to increase the quality of an item that can be upgraded or they can be used to increase the amount of experience gained from upgrading an existing weapon or piece of gear. They can be forged for extra bonuses. For instance, a created glyph can increase the chances of upgrading its target, whereas an upgrade boost will boost the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.

Selecting an upgrade template in the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will show the list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench to selecting an upgrade template. In either instance the item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been collected.

Each component has its own experience multiplier. This determines how much experience an item gains when upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components give an experience multiplier that is higher than mechanical ones. You should upgrade your organic components first until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment and then move on to mechanical upgrades.

In addition to the experience multiplier, each item also has a maximum number of upgrades it can receive. The number of upgrades is determined by the upgradeable rank and the upgrade type of the upgradeable item. For instance, the highest possible upgrade for a weapon is a tier 10 weapon. The most commonly used upgrade is a gun with tier 6 and an armor upgrade for tier 5.

Sets

A set is a group of items that have a bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once, and the upgrade will increase the amount of bonuses that are guaranteed. The first time you upgrade a set piece or weapon is that it will be given a +1 increase to its primary stat.
