Robots that vacuum and clean offer the convenience of cleaning both dry debris and wet messes in one session, without having to switch devices. They can also save space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot should have impressive navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models with docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the easiest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking is simple and the quick-start manual will have you running in no time with an entire dust bag, water tank, and hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful small machine that can cleans up a mess and vacuums well too. The mops are spun at a high rate and employ 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to swiftly get rid of pet hair, dirt and sticky dried spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, as well as a selection of attachments and brushes and an intuitive app which lets you select the type of cleaning you'd like to do for each room.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most recent version of the company's top robot vacuum and mop. In contrast to the model of last year, this one features two agitators in its mopping pad which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning abilities. The S8 Pro Ultra also has an improved suction capacity, allowing it to pick up small hairs and other particles that other robotic cleaners may overlook.

The Roborock model, just like the other two models I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as walls, furniture and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by having a dual camera that can detect objects and determine whether they're a wall or another surface. It will then automatically alter its path and clean around them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive model I've tried however it also comes with the most features. Its sleek angular design is eye catching, and it only has three physical buttons. The power button, which resumes the cleaning, a mop button that doubles up as a child-lock and a home button to bring the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal 350ml of dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank will empty itself and the bin is auto-refilling.

The only issue I have discovered with this model was that its VibraRise mop pad mount isn't movable. While you can swap out the mopping cloth (if it's required) but it's a challenge to take off the mount to wash it manually. I've noticed that any carpet that the robot crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on mounts, which can cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a number clever features that include support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The Roborock app allows you to manage and configure these features. It also has maps and advanced mopping options. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and track battery life. But you'll need to jump through a few hoops in order to enable voice control with this model, which is a shame considering the performance of this model.

3. Dreame X40

It can also be programmed to skip areas with carpets and mop only hard floors, or reverse the process. It can be controlled through the Dreame app or via Alexa, Siri, and Google Home to ensure a smooth voice-controlled operation.

The app is simple and user-friendly and the X40's intelligent features are a breeze to install. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, alter suction power and mode, see floor plans and mapping, and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also track its progress, and alert you when it is finished.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with many features that make it a great choice for busy families. The docking station automatically empty the trash bin into a 3.2 L bin, cleans mop pads and refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It will also tell you the moment when the mop pad is at its maximum capacity and notify you of the situation before it overflows.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models available. However, it has a number of characteristics that make it stand out. Smart DuoScrub, a new feature on its mop, utilizes two mop heads that are high-speed to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a suction force of 7,000Pa. This is much higher than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni and can remove pet hair and smaller dirt particles - in addition to removing spills and wet spots.

Its mops are also dried and cleaned inside the base station after every use. This is a fantastic feature as it stops the growth of mould and unpleasant odours in storage, and also makes mop systems more efficient. This is a system we've yet to see on other robot vacuum and mop models and it could be a good robot vacuum method to keep your home clean for longer.

There's a plethora of settings on offer, including the possibility to schedule cleaning appointments and adjust a variety of preferences. The app allows you to define these preferences, or make use of the buttons on the device itself.
