We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. They weighed storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency as well as other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is targeted at people who want to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This fridge has them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive and I was expecting better.

Other than that however, this refrigerator is a great choice. It has a large freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth french style fridge freezer reviews uk door fridges. It also holds plenty of frozen food compared to other models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on par for the size of a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It comes with a decent size icemaker in the left door. But, it's not the largest one I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to create a a custom storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is stylish, too. The LED lighting is a nice feature. The bins for storage inside include a third shelf that can be folded down to store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, however I found their textured plastic coatings a bit hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in world, and has many options for customizing. It will also send notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It would be great it GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option found in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to select the number of cups they would like to dispense. It does offer a countdown on the fridge's display to show how much water you have left, but it's not as helpful as Precise fill.

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who need plenty of space in the space of a compact frame. Inside, the fridge features an ordinary french door fridge with drawer-door design with gallon-sized door bins at each door and two rows of spill-capture shelves and a set of crisper drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more room. There's also a full-width storage drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the best aspects of this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, which makes it easy to move ice into the fridge for use when needed. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers to help you better organize the position of items. It comes with a large bin for storing frozen food and a separate container for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another awesome feature of the refrigerator. It allows you to control the temperature of your fridge and lighting from your smartphone. It's a great way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially when you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't enhance the performance of the fridge. The fridge took a bit longer to chill food and defrost it than other models we tried. This could be due to its larger capacity.

The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles with a sunken design allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been better if they had front-mounted handle.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also a bit cheaper than the most expensive counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, making it a great choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door refrigerator that won't break the bank, this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a basic fridge which may not be as attractive as some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a suitable option. Its main feature is the adjustable temperature drawer, which helps keep foods like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser as well as a good ice machine that works fast.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer allows you to divert part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can store foods that require extra attention. You can adjust this feature by using the slider located on the in the middle of the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling setting for the whole fridge, but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.

During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the refrigerator. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary very far from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a great performance however it doesn't be among the top in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made from grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It is capable of preventing streaks and fingerprints from appearing even when compared to the glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
