1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top robot vacuum cleaner-rated robots that we test. It could get stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends clearing areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station's external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it left off. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes 3 hours to charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, is its self vacuum-emptying dustbin that removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and robot broom easy with the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households and can fit in well next to the coffee table or the bookshelf, where you can wave it around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adjusted to the specific task. It can quickly switch from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on an expensive robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area several times for a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top picks and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and is often unable to supply power before returning to its base.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it wasn't particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot cleaner, if necessary. For instance my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to trip up some of the other robots I've tested. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
