And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for Robot Hoover virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum reviews automatic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer better cleaning. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and autonomous vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and Robot Hoover multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
