UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement double glazing handles. When doing this it is important that the new handles are in line with the critical dimensions of the old handle.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's location, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to help you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever or lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be installed on new or replacement doors. This style of door handle is available in a wide range of designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

The uPVC/Composite handles are made from durable materials, and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a strong design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same screws and spindle to secure them. They can be easily mounted on any uPVC/composite door handles door.

The handle can be positioned and angled to suit any user. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance over time. The sprung lever can be reduced to accommodate a wider range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is situated further away from the patio door handle. A shortened lever can also be used for doors that have a latch that can be opened by the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently from lever-type handles on doors. These handles can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are typically employed on UPVC doors with double glazing window handle double glazing handle. They come in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200k cycles and are available in several finishes including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles come with screws and a spindle which allow them to be installed on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger size of handle which is often a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with springs, which can solve the issue of door handles that move out of the horizontal position when not in use.

When choosing the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is essential to match the PZ dimensions of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres and is an essential aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size you will then need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. These are typically of a round or square shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.

Most of the UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they return to their horizontal position when they are not in use, instead of hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles come in both left and right handed versions, allowing them to be put on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but they can also be found on other types of door. They work by using a key that unlock a cylinder case that then reveals pins which can be aligned with the pins inside the lock body, allowing them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is essential. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for example should be equipped with cylinders that are more secure, whereas internal doors can be secured using a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that increase security, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in its position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, therefore it is important to make sure it's not too long.

Most newer cylinders have been constructed with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. They are designed to decrease attacks by forcing cylinders to rotate in a new direction. This helps stop the attack and protect your doors.

There are also cylinders that have been made to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the lock's break line and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which can delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is situated inside the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their original position after usage. In the past, a lot of handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them, and without it they are more likely to slide or drop once the locking mechanism is disengaged. The addition of this simple element is one of the best ways to correct this, and is an effective way to keep your upvc doors from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as these aren't always simple to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes are specially made for use with multipoint locks that are sprung but they won't work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You will require a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in a single unit. They come with a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution to the issue of door handles that have become sagging. They are simple to install and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
