Replacement Handles For Windows

Window handles are one of the most used parts of double glazing door handles-glazed windows. Over time they can become rusty or worn down.

You'll need to know your current handle's length of the spindle and its fixings before you replace it. This can be done by examining the base of the handle that was previously used.

Handle

Over time, uPVC window handles and locks can be damaged through wear and tear, accidental or intentional damage. This could mean that the lock or handle becomes difficult to open or close, or that it's not even locked in any way. It may be tempting to replace your entire window unit when this happens, but it is not always required. Most of the time, it's the case that a replacement handle or lock is sufficient.

The most commonly used type of uPVC window handle is the espagnolette. The handle comes with a spindle that protrudes out of the handle. It slots into a gearbox, which controls the multipoint locking mechanism inside the window. It is essential to match the correct handle and lock to your windows to ensure that they work correctly, which is why we have a wide variety of replacement conservatory door handles for all types of uPVC windows.

It's an ideal idea, when replacing a uPVC handle using screw covers to shield the screws from corrosion and keep them secure. It is also possible to use a washer or spacer to create a more secure seal. A screw cap that is in place will also prevent water and debris from getting into the handle and causing damage.

It's simple to replace a window crank with minimal effort. However, it is essential that you purchase the correct size replacement. Make sure the replacement has the same height as the old one, which can be determined by measuring the distance between the guide for the crank arm bushing and the notch in the track that runs across the bottom of the window frame. Alternately, you can measure the length of the spindle that is on your existing handle to determine what size you will need for a replacement.

The kind of window handle that you have will determine which kind of crank mechanism is needed for your casement or awning windows. Espag handles feature a mental spindle on their back that is connected to the frame of the window, and controls the window mechanism, while cockspur handles have pegs that are held to the frame by three or four screws that are inserted into the sash and frame.

Once you've found the correct replacement, it's simple to install. First, take off any trim mounting screws from the window's casement cover and carefully lift it up to reveal the insides of your window operator (Photo 1). Compare the new operating lever to the old one and take off any rusted trim screw. Screw the replacement to the window frame. Replace any screws that have become rusted or bent. Then, put the casement cover on top of the mechanism.
