Seats

The majority of triple buggies are designed as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accept an additional seat by using adapters. Some models allow you to add an additional board for older children who are able to walk, but still require a little help.

For a lightweight alternative that's ideal for city streets, take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket that is full of storage. It can accommodate twins from birth and accept two car seats or seats and a carrycot. The seats have to face toward the forward direction and there isn't space to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will require a sidepack.

If you like to travel off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good choice. It is a side by tandem with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy available. It's much easier to get through narrow doors as well as on public transport. It is also able to climb over and up kerbs. The adjustable handlebar comes with an integrated handbrake to increase security and safety.

Another option that is lightweight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double it can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and a baby. The iCandy Orange is one of the most popular double buggies available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's a true all terrain 3 wheel stroller-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension, which makes light work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate up to 30 seating configurations and has an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older kids who prefer walking, plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back of the seat to improve visibility.

The phil&teds dots are great single buggys that can be easily adapted to take two (or three!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is especially helpful for parents with children in a car seat, as the frame can be fitted with a wedgie that allows for optimal lie-flat positioning, or car seat adapters for a wider range of brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension on a triple buggy is vital to how easy it will be for you and your baby to push. It is important to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump in the road. This is especially true if you are driving on rough terrain, such as grass or unpaved roads. Some models come with locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they are susceptible to punctures. Make sure you keep an extra set of tyres in your trunk. Some models have foam or gel-filled tyres that are designed to absorb bumps. They are less likely to puncture, but they might cause discomfort for your child if they decide to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her newborn and 3 wheel parent facing pushchair years old children, and discovered that it performed admirably on tricky terrain: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles easily and was able to manoeuvre around corners and climb up and down kerbs. The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat, yet it weighs around 11kg, which makes it easy to lift and manoeuvre. It can be used with the car seat, a carrycot or both. This allows you to get the best of all worlds.
