This allows it to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport and allows you to climb up and down kerbs with no trouble. It also has a handbrake on the adjustable handlebar to provide additional security and safety.

Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used for twins or a toddler and baby. The seats have multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades, while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple by the addition of UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack' board for mobile older kids.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most sought-after available. This is due to their superb comfort. It's a true all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension to make easy work of bumpy surfaces. It comes with 30 different seating options and a built-in board for older children who like walking, and a "cinema' mode which raises the back seat for better visibility.

The phil&teds dot is a brilliant single buggy that is available from day one that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3!) in a variety of configurations. This is especially useful for parents who have children in your car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie that allows for the most optimal lying-flat position. Also, car seat adapters that fit many brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension in a 3-wheel double buggy is essential to how it is easy for you and your child to push. A smooth ride is vital as babies can feel every bump on the road, especially if it's on rough terrain like grass or dirt roads. Some models have front tires that lock to aid in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.

Some models have tyres with air filled that are ideal for all-terrain rides, but they are prone to punctures. Be sure to keep a spare set of tyres in your trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres, specifically designed to handle bumps and are less prone to punctures, however, you may find them a little stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back when you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath put the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her newborn and 3 wheel bassinet stroller years old, and found that it was able to handle difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over grass and bumpy pavements cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles with ease and was easy to maneuver around corners and go up and down kerbs.
