Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

Following a string of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key is a project that was created in collaboration with an unidentified artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a project that was announced by Lamborghini.

The latest project, dubbed the Space Key, is a work of art created in collaboration with a unknown artist. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that can be obtained by scanning the use of a QR code. The project is limited and will be auctioned off over the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part of a research project in 2019, sent to the International Space Station. Once it returned to earth the carbon fiber was crafted into this distinctive artwork. The physical piece is inscribed with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the digital artwork via a QR code on the back.

NFTs, for those who aren't familiar are unique identifiers which are recorded on an open ledger on the blockchain and connected to a digital asset such as a picture or video, song or any other kind of record. This lets owners ensure the authenticity, scarcity and the trackability of their tokens through the internet.

Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art by working with NFT PRO, an white label NFT solution for business. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal details about the exciting project including the name of the unidentified artist and a timetable for the auction.

The physical component of the Space Key

After numerous social media posts teasing something space-related, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible (NFT) tokens through an exclusive project dubbed Space Key. Created in collaboration with an unknown artist and artist, the NFT is a collector's item that will be auctioned off in a couple of weeks. At its heart is a piece made of carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of a research project. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to create the base of each Space Key, which is connected to an exclusive, digital design using a QR code on the back of the key. Just five Space Keys have been produced.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts hints, luxury car maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first initiative for tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). It's dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock a unique digital artwork NFT created by a yet-to-be-identified artist. The collectors' piece was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to just five units. It will be auctioned off soon.

Each Space Key contains a block comprised of the most advanced carbon-fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth it was imprinted with a QR code, which connects it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was captured by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera, which took each of the individual shots, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is an out of this world photograph that captures both the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic view of the car key lamborghini erupting from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and location of the auction haven't yet been set yet.

The auction

The auctions, which will occur between February 1 through February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same amount of time it took for Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be purchased by registering online. Each one will be auctioned in a separate auction and the winner will be awarded a digital image created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its journey through space.
