What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob

You've either lost your Nissan keyfob or stopped functioning. Before you call the dealership or panic, trace your steps to see the exact location you last used it.

It's not a big deal to change the battery on your Nissan key fob. It can be a bit daunting initially, but you'll get the ability to do it in no time.

Smart Keys

The key fob included with the Nissan is a crucial element of its sophisticated keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronic systems to unlock doors or start the engine and has a practical design that is easy to keep in your pocket. A key fob can also provide features that make life easier, like an alarm that can be locked out, which ensures that you don't leave the vehicle with the keys inside.

Smart keys operate wirelessly, unlike previous models that required you to insert the key into the ignition slot to access your vehicle's internal systems. Nissan detects when you enter your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This can be as simple as opening or locking the doors, lowering and raising the tailgate, or even starting the engine.

Some smart key models have a hidden metal valet key. This key can be pulled out from a release on the back of the Smart Key fob to secure the trunk or glove box before handing it over to the valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket which can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.

If your Nissan's Intelligent Key fob isn't working as it should, then you'll have to replace the batteries. The owner's manual will offer instructions on how to change the batteries on most fobs.

Intelligent Key Fob

It also allows you to activate presets that meet your needs. For example you can adjust the mirrors and seat for maximum comfort. You can also control the music on your smartphone so that you don't need to leave your car.

Intelligent Key Fobs are equipped with an antenna in them that transmits a signal to your vehicle whenever you touch a button or move towards it. Once your vehicle is notified, it activates the system, opening or locking doors, launching the engine, and opening the trunk. If you'd like to test out the fob, stand a distance away from your vehicle and press the buttons. If the lights flash, or the horn sounds sound, you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.

Like all remotes, Intelligent Key fobs require batteries to function. If they run out, our Parts Department can help you replace it quickly and easily. To do this, remove the hidden key from your key fob and open its battery compartment. Replace the old battery with a new one after removing the old one. Make sure the positive side of your new battery faces in the same direction it did with the old one. Finally close the compartment for the battery and return the key to its hidden place inside the case.

Remote Start

Lockout Protection

Lockout protection prevents lockouts that are caused by impedance malfunctions. A special module inside the power control unit monitors the activity of the impedance relay, and then disables the output. This feature is available for vehicles that are equipped with the Smart Key system, or through the vehicle's personalization menu.

Many serious accidents have occurred due to a machine being started when it was supposed to be completely turned off to allow for maintenance or repair. These accidents are usually the result of stored energy that has not been properly released. Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) that ensures that machines remain off until an authorized person releases them, helps prevent these incidents.

The LOTO system consists of a number of locks tags, locks, and other devices that are used to secure, isolate or block the machine from an electrical source. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel are required to be trained in the use of these devices. These devices include but not limited to locks, chains, padlocks, wedges, adapter pins, and self-locking fasteners. Each device is unique and labeled with the date and time that it was put in use along with the name and address of the authorized person and the reason for the lockout or tagout (repairs, maintenance and maintenance, etc.). It must be stated clearly that these devices are not to be removed until the LOTO procedure is complete.
