Ghost is connected to your CAN network, and uses buttons on your vehicle to create a unique push-sequence that must be entered before the engine can be started.

When the anti-hijacking feature is activated, any attempt to restart the engine will be blocked. The system will sharpen the horn flashing the indicators, and stall the vehicle if the code is not found. The Anti-Hijack feature is removed by entering your push sequence, or by entering service mode which allows your car to begin and drive, without having to enter your PIN.

If you own a GPS device linked up to your BMW it can be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car when the vehicle is parked unsupervised. If you own a smart-phone, you can also link it to your Ghost app to control the anti-hijack function and other functions.
