3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is ideal for tackling off-road terrain providing an easy ride for your child. They are also easier to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheeler and are especially suitable for those with fabric slings or modular seat units that are tightly positioned in the frame to provide the most efficient design and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeler has great stability, which is the reason it's a good choice for off road walking (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat unit). They typically have large front tires that can withstand bumps, kerbs, and rough terrain. Some even have a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled versions, which could mean they are more likely to fall over. They should be able to turn at a single click and be able to steer using just one hand, and feature the front wheel rotate 360o that makes them great for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

For really tricky surfaces be sure to choose a model with air-filled tyres which are also referred to as pneumatic tyres. These are designed to work on non-paved tracks and should cope with mud, gravel, rock and more. A lot of all-terrain buggies have a swivelling wheel on the front which can be locked for greater stability when dealing with rough terrain.

A 3-wheeler is an excellent option for runners or for those who like to walk fast and uphill, especially when you plan to attach an infant car seat or carrycot. Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that can handle difficult terrain, then you'll need one with large wheels. They are designed to tackle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks easily while providing smooth riding. They are also great for jogging because they have built in suspension and are easy to move up and down kerbs. The trade-off is that they are quite heavy to push.

Fabric slings are placed inside the frame and not on top of the frame like modular seats. This design has an lower centre of gravity and a perfect height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot underestimate the amount of times you'll have to do this when you're a new parent!)

Seating

The capacity for seating of 3 wheel infant stroller wheelers is impressive, and there are a number of different options to choose from. For babies it is possible to use the carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lying flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can be seated in the parent or world-facing seat that is spacious and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats aren't fully reclined however, they can be lowered to the lowest position that will still allow your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available, which offers the advantage of being placed snugly within the frame rather than over the top of an open-back seat. This gives a lower centre of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this style of seat dealt with obstacles.

Alongside a huge shopping basket, this kind of buggy usually has very useful features like an extended 50+ UV hood, an easy-to-use brake pedal, and a few game-changing visibility lights that appear from the handlebar and can be placed in front of the passengers to improve their safety when traversing difficult terrain.

Storage

The 3 wheel push chair-wheeled frame makes the buggy much more stable to push with one hand, and it's also great for handling rough terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a four-wheeler.

A high-quality ATP will have pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for added comfort, and a superb suspension. It will also be able to take a carrycot and car seat which means you can use it right from birth.

The MFM reviewers noted that the 3 wheel stroller lightweight-wheeler frames couldn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure you check the dimensions when the buggy is folded prior to purchasing.

Look for a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best option for your future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is one of the best of these that can be used as a single seat from day dot, and then transforms into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are made to provide your child with a more comfortable ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. They're commonly found on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to be "an amazing ride for my toddler". She also mentioned that the grippy tires of the Phil and Ted's Sport made it easier for her to negotiate kerbs and other obstacles.

They can be difficult to maintain and need to be topped up frequently. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres. So it is essential that you have repair kits with spare tubes and a pump on hand when you are traveling with your buggy.

PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres but they're just as durable. You can tell PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide easily on uneven and tied surfaces.

It's usually possible to discern the distinction between air-filled and PU tires by running your hands over them, if it feels hard then it's rubber and If it slides, then it's a PU. You can also determine if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres sliding them across an even, smooth surface. They should roll easily and fit comfortably into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are often used in high-performance buggies as well as Joggers due to their ability to deal with the rough terrain associated with this kind of pushchair. The downside is that the foam could compress and make your buggy feel less stable since it loses its springy feel. These tyres are also noisy because they generate lots of noise when you turn and drive around town.
