For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoovers hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot hoover and mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum and mop that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
