The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also have a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, Best Robot Hoover this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot vacuum cleaner that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
