However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, Best Robot Hoover and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the automatic vacuum and mop and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot vacuum uk to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
