Like other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, best robot hoover compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, best robot hoover and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuums that mop vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
