The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaners best that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums best utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize an automatic vacuum and mop spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
