WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader mod is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from Item upgrade upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade item can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

item level upgrade upgraders can be found in many places on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less even if they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. They can make use of Flightstones which are a general upgrade currency that is accessible to everyone players, or crests that are more specific and used to upgrade specific levels of the item. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
