The app can be used to track location and customize ambient sound features according to your surroundings. The device also has built-in microphones for making calls without hands. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is able to play music via Bluetooth or with an electrical connection via the cable included. They are compatible with aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive codecs that play high quality audio via Bluetooth.

The WH-1000XM5 sports a similar headband and ear cups to the XM4 however it is lighter and more comfortable. These headphones are comfortable to wear and can be worn for extended periods. They are also ideal for long flights and commutes. They feature excellent noise canceling performance that block out the majority of background noise without compromising on clarity and clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 has decent bass for a pair of closed-back headphones. They also provide a great soundstage, with the clear distinction between vocals and instruments.

They have a very low latency when watching videos, which is a huge advantage. The lag is so low that it's practically imperceptible and they can be used to play casual gaming. They're not the best option for competitive video games though and are best for those who will be using them for media consumption or to make calls that are hands-free.

Sony is very committed to infusing smart features into their products and the WH1000XM5 is not a different. The active noise cancellation is among the best I've tried and they include a whole suite of smart functions to improve the overall listening experience. They also come with Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to near hi-res quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate music via Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones that are the PX7 S2, have consistently appeared on top wireless headset lists since the introduction of the first generation PX7 in the year 2015. They are in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bluetooth wireless Bose QuietComfort. The latest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the initial headphones to a new level, with improved ANC performance as well as a fresh design.

The bio-cellulose drivers of 40mm in the earcups have been angled so that they point directly at your eardrums. This gives you an audio experience that is more intimate than other headphones with a closed back. The PX7 S2 lives up to this claim with a fervent zeal. The vocals are clear and the bass is deep when it's needed.

The PX7 S2 is also very excellent at making calls. It has a crisp, clear sound that does not overpower your voice. For the majority of listeners, however the most important change is the improvement in noise cancellation and audio performance. In our tests we were able to eliminate a majority of the simulated aircraft noises with the PX7 S2. They also performed well in Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus, which demonstrate an excellent understanding of the changing dynamics between the solo vocal, wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

The PX7 S2s aren't just noise-canceling, but they also include a variety of features that make them highly competitive with other top-rated headphones. They're completely wireless, with Bluetooth multipoint support, so you can pair them with two devices at once, and they include a built-in microphone which allows hands-free calling using your phone's assistant. The construction is durable and high-end and will last for many years.

Of course they're not perfect. The clamp force of our test models were slightly higher than we would have liked and there weren't as many app features as the other options. But these are minor issues. The PX7 S2s is a superb wireless headset that is able to compete with other models in its class. It's difficult to imagine a competitor that can beat them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who value high fidelity and are looking for an exceptional wireless noise-canceling headset The Focal Bathys are difficult to beat. The Focal Bathys are the first ANC headphones from an French audio manufacturer to utilize Bluetooth. They offer amazing sound quality both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device for true hi-fi audio with a maximum of 24-bit/192kHz.

The Bathys are stunning with their black glossy finish and swooping curves like Focal's premium open back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. They also come with premium materials like aluminum and magnesium for a robust build that feels solid, comfortable, and worth the price.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones offer an impressive, clear sound signature. They are able to outperform consumer ANC devices of similar price such as the Sony XM5/5 and Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode allows them to be pushed further which makes them a fantastic option for those who love hifi.

Utilizing the Focal & Naim app users can change the playback controls on their headphone as well as the virtual assistant and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app allows users to select between silent and soft intensities for ANC. They can also adjust the brightness of the LEDs on the earcups of the headphones, and adjust the EQ settings. The app is not complete, but it offers enough features to warrant the cost of downloading.

The only drawback is the active noise cancellation, which doesn't measure up to the quality of the competition. Despite their size and weight they are Bathys are extremely comfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are excellent wireless headphones that are worth the money. They feature a great noise-cancelling technology that does a great job of blocking out ambient noise, which makes them great for commuters and travellers. Their matte finish and sturdy construction gives them a hint of premium quality.

They have a similar look to Sony's 1000X and XB910N headphone models. They feature a slim headband, with the typical ear cup hinges, and a durable plastic construction. They're light and comfortable, however they are a little too compressed to my liking. In the box, they come with an USB-C port to charge and the 3.5mm jack and a decent length cable. They support multipoint Bluetooth which means that you can connect to two devices simultaneously should you wish to.

In my tests the CH720N's noise-cancelling technology was able to do an excellent job of curbing background noise, with just two noticeable blips in walking around Waterloo station and London Victoria. They weren't magic sound-silencers that blocked out every sound however, they struggled with lower-frequency noises such as the rumbling engine sounds of buses and trains.

The streaming of music via the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and displayed a low level of harmonic distortion. I tested a variety of genres and discovered that they handled the intricate interplay between instruments with ease. It did a great job of reducing the bass in rock tracks, and keeping the mix focused.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize the CH720N's multipoint connection and ANC settings according to your preferences. You can also choose from a range of audio presets. You can also utilize the app to activate DSEE which boosts the quality of compressed content and improves its sound quality.

The WH-CH720N is an excellent value for PS130. It isn't equipped with some of Sony's top features (such as Speak-toChat and Quick Attention) however it comes with numerous amazing features. It comes with 360 Reality Audio and a variety of smart controls as well as the aforementioned DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support which I believe would have been a welcomed inclusion.
